From Intention to Action
Fatales Forward: Trans Stories is a trailblazing fellowship from Film Fatales designed to support trans and gender diverse directors working on their debut scripted or unscripted feature films through a career advancement intensive, one-on-one mentorship, peer workshops, and ongoing artist development support.
Changing the Ratio
This program is focused on uplifting emerging trans directors who are actively pursuing a professional directing career. We use the term “trans” in its most inclusive sense to encompass transgender, genderqueer, Indigenous Two-Spirit, non-binary and anyone whose gender identity or gender expression is non-conforming and/or different from their birth-assigned sex. We define “emerging” as anyone who has not yet directed a scripted feature film or television series. We especially encourage filmmakers of underrepresented ethnicities, orientations, disabilities, and/or ages to apply.
We believe that a more inclusive and representative film industry is not only a necessity, but a priority. By fostering relationships between emerging creators and established filmmakers, Fatales Forward: Trans Stories provides a platform for real career advancement for undiscovered directors of historically marginalized backgrounds.
We are changing the ratio of voices in the film industry, one relationship at a time.
Participants will be invited to a Weekend Intensive, and will be matched with experienced trans directors for one-on-one mentorship over the following few months. Fellows are also invited to optional monthly peer workshops with guest speakers. The program will culminate in a Showcase celebration for a private audience of industry allies.
