GUIDELINES
The Future Is Now
There is no lack of talent, only a lack of opportunity.
The mission of Fatales Forward: Trans Stories is to tackle systemic inequalities in the film industry by nurturing community and building new pathways for previously overlooked directors. The only way we will bring about lasting transformative change is when those of us who have broken through the elitist structures use our voices, knowledge, and resources to advocate for those of us starting the climb.
With this in mind, Fatales Forward will set up carefully curated one-on-one mentorships, matching emerging trans filmmakers (Fellows) and experienced filmmakers (Mentors) with similar backgrounds and interests for guidance and support. This unique approach will foster deeper connections between Fellows and Mentors that ultimately lead to individual career advancement and overarching meaningful change in the industry. We will also create a space for Fellows to build a tight knit community through peer to peer workshops.
Program Structure
- Fellows will be paired with established directors from similarly underrepresented communities.
- Fellows will attend a weekend intensive on April 2nd-3rd, 2022, where they will meet the other participants, connect with their individual mentors, and participate in conversations with other industry professionals.
- Fellows and Mentors will then be invited to one-hour conversations monthly between April and June, with the goal of cultivating relationships that continue to develop past the end of the program itself.
- Fellows are welcome to join optional monthly peer feedback sessions and share their projects.
- Fellows will have access to ongoing artist development support throughout the year.
- Fellows will receive an unrestricted $1,000 stipend to use at their own discretion.
